Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit wants his former club to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Rafael Leao from AC Milan to strengthen their attack.

Talk to Hawks Casino (quote via Express), Petit says the Gunners need to strengthen their front line if they want to compete for the title:

“My dream players for Arsenal to win major trophies are Victor Osimhen and Rafael Leao. They need a striker like Osimhen, and Leao would be perfect to rotate with Gabriel Martinelli, they need that competition.”

“I’ve said before that Arsenal lack depth compared to other teams and that’s what they need to add. These players will take Arsenal to the next level and make them a real threat in the Premier League and Champions League under Mikel Arteta.”

Petit’s ‘dream signing’ would cost a lot

Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray. He decided to join the Turkish side after his move to Chelsea fell through at the end of the summer transfer window.

However, the Nigeria international is believed to have a release clause in his contract with Napoli meaning he could leave for €75m (£62.4m).

However, Rafael Leao’s purchase costs are much higher. When he signed a new contract with Milan last year, there was a clause meaning a sale would only take place if the team paid €175m (£145.6m).

Arsenal still need to appoint a new transfer chief

While fans and pundits (like Petit) are already planning the club’s future signings, it’s worth noting that the Gunners will need to recruit another sporting director first, following Edu’s departure.

Several names have been mentioned as potential candidates, including Per Mertesacker, Tomas Rosicky, Real Sociedad director Roberto Olabe, and Paris Saint-Germain transfer advisor Luis Campos.

It is hoped the appointment will be made before the January window so there is no disruption to Arsenal transfer matters.
