Arsenal have been heavily linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in recent months, however, they are now eyeing a move for one of his teammates.
Gyokeres, 26, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal. However, it is unlikely that the high-scoring Swede will be on the move in January.
Arsenal have been looking for a striker all season, and they are very interested in signing him in January, if the right opportunity presents itself.
New reports have emerged suggesting that the Gunners are eyeing Sporting CP striker and Gyokeres’ teammate Conrad Harder as a transfer target.
Harder, 20, started the season playing for Nordsjaelland in Denmark, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in seven games. However, he then moved to Sporting CP in September to play under United boss Ruben Amorim.
Since moving to Portugal, he has made 12 league appearances for Sporting, scoring three goals and contributing two assists.
According to The Boot Room, Arsenal and Chelsea have both emerged as potential suitors for the 19-year-old, who was initially signed to replace Gyokeres due to the risk of the Sweden international’s big move to the Premier League.
The report states that an offer of around £42 million would be needed to tempt the Portuguese side to sell Harder immediately after buying him.
Despite the fact that Harder has only been at Sporting for half a season, the young talent has already caught the Gunners’ attention, meaning they will likely seek a bid for him during the summer window, rather than Gyokeres.
Arsenal is looking for alternative targets besides Gyokeres
As it becomes clear that the former Coventry City man will not be leaving Portugal this month, the Gunners are looking for other targets to try to fill the vacant striker position.
Recent links link Arsenal with Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has also emerged as a Manchester United target.
Additionally, the Gunners have also been linked with Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui, who would provide Mikel Arteta with a slightly cheaper alternative to Vlahovic.
